Crichton Park is one of Dartmouth’s most established neighbourhoods and continues to be a popular choice for buyers looking for a central location with a quieter residential feel. It is one of those areas known to be family-friendly and one buyers quickly gravitate toward.
Located just off Woodland Avenue, the area offers quick access to downtown Dartmouth, major shopping areas, and both the Macdonald Bridge and the MacKay Bridge. It is a convenient place to live, especially for people commuting across Dartmouth and around the Halifax Region.
Schools and Community
Crichton Park is a popular choice for families, and schools are a big part of that. Crichton Park Elementary is one of the most highly regarded schools in the area. In addition to the elementary school there is the Bicentennial School, and Dartmouth High School which are all nearby and well known in the area. All are part of the Halifax Regional Centre for Education.
French immersion is also available locally. Crichton Park Elementary offers early immersion, which continues on through Bicentennial School and into Dartmouth High School.Dartmouth High has a long history in the community and is known for its sports teams, particularly basketball and football, along with a range of extracurricular programs.
Beyond school, there is quite a bit going on day-to-day. Kids are in sports, programs are always running, and there are plenty of places nearby to stay active.
Outside of school hours, the neighbourhood stays active. The Zatzman Sportsplex is a go-to for a lot of people year-round, with pools, a gym, an indoor track, skating, and programs for both kids and adults. There are also parks, playgrounds, and local programs throughout the year. It is one of those areas where you will usually see something going on, whether it is kids heading to activities or families out at the park.

A Neighbourhood That Feels Established
Most of the homes in the neighbourhood were built in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, which is why you see a mix of solid, well-built houses on mature streets. Common styles include bungalows, split-entry homes, and two-storey houses, many of which have been updated over the years.
The area has a settled feel to it. Homes are well maintained, and it is not unusual to see properties that have been owned by the same families for many years.
Location and Everyday Living
One of the biggest draws to Crichton Park is how easy it is to get around and how close everything is.
Residents are just minutes from Mic Mac Mall, Dartmouth Crossing, and a wide range of restaurants, grocery stores, and everyday services. Nearby shopping includes Sobeys, Superstore, NSLC and Costco in Dartmouth Crossing, along with many other retail options, making errands easy to take care of without going far.
Dartmouth Crossing offers a large mix of big box stores, restaurants, and services, while Burnside Business Park is also nearby, making this a practical location for many people who work in the area.Local restaurants such as Mic Mac Tavern, Battery Park Beer Bar & Eatery, The Canteen on Portland, and Two If By Sea Café are all popular spots, whether it is for a casual dinner, a night out, or just a good coffee. It is the kind of area where you get to know your regular spots pretty quickly.
Lake Banook and Lake Micmac are also just a short distance away. They are well used for walking, paddling, and community events throughout the year.
During the warmer months, you will often see dragon boat teams training on the lake, along with canoe and kayak races and local regattas. The lakes have a long history of hosting national and international competitions, which is something the community takes pride in. Having this kind of outdoor space so close by is something a lot of residents don’t take for granted. There are also Summer camps for children at Lake Banook each year.
The Shubenacadie Canal trails run through the area as well, giving residents another easy option for getting outside.
